Following a deadly fire at a Delhi hotel, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed a comprehensive fire safety audit across all public and private establishments in the state.
A fire that broke out in a Delhi hotel last week claimed several lives and raised serious concerns about fire safety standards in crowded public venues. The tragedy prompted immediate reactions from officials across the country, with Uttar Pradesh’s government taking swift action.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the state will conduct a systematic fire safety inspection of every hotel, restaurant, shopping complex, and other public premises within the next 30 days. The directive has been handed to the Uttar Pradesh Fire Service, the State Disaster Management Authority and local municipal bodies, which are to coordinate the audits and ensure compliance with the National Building Code.
Authorities have warned that establishments found lacking in fire prevention measures—such as functional alarms, extinguishers, clear evacuation routes and regular drills—will face penalties, including temporary closure. The move aims to prevent a repeat of the Delhi incident and to reassure the public about safety in high‑traffic venues.
State officials said the inspections will be documented and the findings reported to the CM’s office, with a public summary to be released after the audit period. The initiative reflects a broader push by the Yogi administration to strengthen disaster preparedness across Uttar Pradesh.
