Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath unveiled a scheme granting women aged 60 and above free lifetime bus travel across Uttar Pradesh.
Delhi‑based Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a new welfare initiative that will allow senior women, aged 60 years and older, to travel by bus without paying any fare for the rest of their lives. The scheme, presented during a press conference in Lucknow, is aimed at enhancing mobility and safety for elderly women in the state.
Under the programme, eligible beneficiaries will receive a lifetime free travel pass that can be used on all state‑run and privately operated buses that operate under Uttar Pradesh transport permits. The transport department will coordinate with bus operators to ensure seamless verification and issuance of the passes.
The government said the move aligns with its broader agenda of social security for senior citizens and women, and it expects the scheme to encourage greater participation of older women in social and economic activities.
Implementation details, including the application process and timelines, will be released by the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department in the coming days.
