Ahead of Raksha Bandhan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared a scheme to provide four major gifts to 354,000 Rasoiyas, the traditional sweet‑making community.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath announced a special welfare package for the Rasoiya community, which is known for preparing traditional sweets. The scheme, unveiled just before the Raksha Bandhan festival, will deliver four distinct gifts to approximately 354,000 artisans across the state.
The four components of the package include cash assistance, free distribution of raw material kits, subsidised electricity for small‑scale units, and a one‑time grant for modernising equipment. Officials said the measures aim to boost the livelihoods of Rasoiyas and ensure uninterrupted sweet supplies during festive seasons.
State authorities will roll out the programme through local district offices, with verification carried out by community leaders. The announcement reflects the government's broader effort to support informal sector workers ahead of major cultural celebrations.
The initiative has been welcomed by several trade associations, which view the financial and infrastructural support as a timely boost for a sector that faces seasonal demand fluctuations.
