The Uttar Pradesh Anti‑Terrorism Squad (ATS) busted a Pakistan‑linked conspiracy to assassinate a senior army officer and a police official, detaining three suspects.
The Anti‑Terrorism Squad of Uttar Pradesh announced on Tuesday that it had foiled a cross‑border plot aimed at killing a senior army officer and a senior police official. Intelligence inputs led the ATS to intercept communications that revealed the involvement of a Pakistan‑based network coordinating the plan.
During a coordinated operation, ATS teams detained three individuals suspected of being the operatives of the plot. The suspects were taken into custody at locations in the state, and a search of their premises yielded weapons and explosives, according to officials.
State police officials said the arrested persons are being interrogated to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy and any further links to foreign agencies. The investigation remains ongoing, and the ATS has pledged to continue monitoring similar threats to national security.
No injuries were reported, and the targeted army and police officials were not present at the time of the thwarted attack. Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the officials for security reasons.
The Uttar Pradesh government praised the ATS for its swift action, emphasizing the importance of vigilance against external threats that seek to destabilise India's security apparatus.
