U.S. Ambassador Sergio Gor praised Jammu and Kashmir as an integral part of India and said Washington may reconsider its travel advisory for the region.
U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, speaking at a press briefing in New Delhi, described Jammu and Kashmir as an "important part of India" and lauded the efforts of the central government and the state’s chief minister in promoting peace and stability in the valley.
He noted that the United States closely monitors the security situation in the region and that recent developments have created a more conducive environment for tourism and investment. In light of these improvements, Gor hinted that Washington is reviewing its travel advisory, which currently advises caution for foreign visitors to J&K.
The ambassador stopped short of announcing any concrete change, emphasizing that any revision would be based on a thorough assessment of on‑ground realities and coordination with Indian authorities. His comments come as India seeks to boost economic activity in the union territory following the abrogation of Article 370.
Analysts view Gor's remarks as a diplomatic signal aimed at reinforcing Indo‑U.S. ties while encouraging responsible tourism in a historically sensitive area.
