Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal flagged off the first international cargo vessel sailing from Assam to Bangladesh. The launch marks a new step in strengthening trade connectivity between the two countries.
The ceremony was held at a river port in Assam, where Sonowal inaugurated the vessel that will operate directly between India and Bangladesh.
He said the initiative aims to improve logistics efficiency and boost bilateral trade by providing a dedicated cargo link.
Officials noted that the service will facilitate the movement of goods between the two nations, reducing transit time and costs.
The move aligns with the government’s focus on developing inland waterways and enhancing multimodal transport under the Act East Policy.
