Union Minister Jitendra Singh highlighted the potential of India’s postal system to reach citizens more effectively, calling for its broader deployment in government programmes.

New Delhi, September 15 — Union Minister of State for Communications, Jitendra Singh, told the Nagaland Post that the country’s extensive postal network can be leveraged more intensively for direct citizen outreach. He emphasized that the network’s reach into remote and rural areas makes it an ideal conduit for delivering government services, information and welfare schemes.

Singh pointed out that while the postal system already handles billions of letters and parcels annually, its role in digital and financial inclusion remains under‑utilised. He suggested integrating postal services with e‑governance platforms to disseminate updates on health, education and employment programmes.

The minister urged state governments and postal authorities to collaborate on pilot projects that would test the delivery of scheme benefits through post offices, especially in the North‑Eastern region where postal outlets often serve as the only point of contact for many citizens.

If adopted, the proposal could streamline communication between the government and the public, reduce information gaps, and enhance the effectiveness of welfare initiatives across the country.
