Union Minister C.R. Patil said extending the tenure of government officials undermines opportunities for young aspirants.

Union Minister C.R. Patil addressed the media on Thursday, urging that government officials should not be granted extensions to their postings. He argued that such extensions create a stagnation in the administrative hierarchy and limit the entry of fresh talent.
Patil emphasized that the practice harms the aspirations of the younger generation, who are eager to serve in public offices but find their career paths blocked by prolonged tenures of senior officers.
He called for strict adherence to the existing tenure norms and suggested that the government consider policy reforms to ensure regular rotation and timely promotions, thereby opening up opportunities for deserving youth.
The minister’s remarks come amid ongoing debates about bureaucratic reforms and the need to make the civil services more dynamic and merit‑based.
