On Thursday, Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav disclosed the complete data of the Special Investigation Report (SIR) review of Bihar's electoral rolls, detailing name deletions and objections to counter opposition claims of vote fraud.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) moved to address growing accusations from opposition parties that the Special Investigation Report (SIR) exercise was being used to manipulate voter lists ahead of upcoming elections. Critics had alleged that the SIR process facilitated the removal of legitimate voters and enabled vote theft.
In response, Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav traveled to Patna on Thursday and released the full set of records pertaining to the special, intensive revision of Bihar's electoral rolls. The data, according to the minister, enumerates the total number of names that were deleted from the rolls and documents the objections raised during the verification process.
Yadav emphasized that the figures demonstrate transparency and that the revision was carried out in accordance with the Election Commission’s guidelines. By making the complete record public, the government aims to dispel misinformation and reassure voters about the integrity of the electoral roll.
While the BJP framed the disclosure as evidence of its commitment to clean elections, opposition leaders have previously called for an independent audit of the SIR exercise. No further statements were recorded at the time of the release.
