Union Minister Bhupender Yadav released two captive‑bred Great Indian Bustards into the wild at a sanctuary near Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, as part of ongoing conservation efforts.

In Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, Union Minister Bhupender Yadav personally released two Great Indian Bustards that had been bred in captivity. The birds were set free at a designated wildlife sanctuary aimed at restoring the species' natural habitat.
The Great Indian Bustard, listed as Critically Endangered, has seen its numbers dwindle to fewer than 200 individuals across the subcontinent. Conservation programmes have focused on captive breeding and habitat protection to prevent the bird’s extinction.
The minister highlighted that the release marks a milestone in the government's broader strategy to bolster the bustard population, noting that continuous monitoring and community involvement will be essential for the birds' survival in the wild.
Authorities plan to track the birds using radio telemetry and hope that successful adaptation will encourage further releases in other suitable regions of Rajasthan.
The event underscores the increasing emphasis on wildlife conservation in India, aligning with national biodiversity goals and international commitments.
