Undertrial Prisoner Fires Homemade Weapon at Guard in Raisen District Jail

Around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, undertrial detainee Nilesh Thakur allegedly shot a homemade weapon at jail guard Digvijay Singh Tomar inside Raisen district jail.
Raisen district jail witnessed a violent episode on Wednesday morning at approximately 09:00 hours when an undertrial prisoner, identified as Nilesh Thakur alias Nilesh Nirvedi, allegedly discharged a homemade weapon towards a jail guard. The guard, Digvijay Singh Tomar, was reportedly targeted with a locally made "katti" – a crude firearm fashioned from readily available materials.
According to the jail's internal report, the incident unfolded within the prison compound, prompting an immediate lockdown of the facility. Prison officials quickly intervened, restraining the accused and providing medical assistance to the guard, who sustained non‑life‑threatening injuries.
The Rajasthan police have taken custody of the prisoner for further interrogation, while a forensic team is examining the weapon to determine its composition and how it entered the jail. Authorities have also launched an inquiry into security lapses that may have allowed the contraband to be smuggled inside the prison.
