In Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, a growing number of school children are commuting on two‑wheelers, prompting the District Transport Officer to call on parents and schools to enforce stricter safety measures.
Recent reports indicate that a significant number of students in Itanagar are using scooters and motorcycles to reach their schools. The trend has raised concerns among local authorities due to the lack of proper safety gear and the high risk of road accidents.
The District Transport Officer (DTO) highlighted that many of these young riders do not wear helmets and often ride without adequate supervision. Incidents involving minor injuries have already been recorded in the past month.
In a statement, the DTO urged parents to insist on helmet use and to monitor their children’s travel routes. He also called on school administrations to review their transportation policies and to consider safer alternatives.
The DTO’s appeal comes as part of a broader effort to improve road safety for children in the region, with local police and traffic departments ready to enforce stricter compliance with safety regulations.
