Former chief minister Uma Bharti wrote to Madhya Pradesh’s chief minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, asking that the proposed removal of the standing Hanuman statue in Ujjain for a road widening project be reconsidered, citing the need to preserve faith alongside development.
The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a plan to widen a road in Ujjain that would require the removal of a large standing Hanuman statue, a landmark that many devotees consider sacred. The proposal has sparked debate among local residents and religious groups who fear the loss of a cultural symbol.
In response, former chief minister Uma Bharti sent a formal letter to the current chief minister, Dr. Mohan Yadav. Bharti urged the administration to seek a solution that respects both infrastructure needs and religious sentiment, referencing the Bhopal model where development projects were adjusted to preserve heritage sites.
As of now, the state government has not issued a public statement on the appeal, and the decision on whether the statue will be relocated or retained remains pending.
