The Madhya Pradesh government approved a Rs 10.63 crore project in 2018 to upgrade the Gaya Kotha pilgrimage complex in Ujjain, a key venue for performing shraddha rituals. Six years on, construction work remains incomplete. Visitors report extensive mud, litter and the absence of essential amenities such as clean water, sanitation and shelter. The unfinished state of the site continues to cause inconvenience for devotees who travel to the shrine for ancestral rites, highlighting a gap between allocated funds and on‑ground progress.
