After a week-long barricade imposed for security during the removal of the mosque’s front section, the streets surrounding Shahi Masjid in Ujjain have been reopened, prompting relief among locals and traders.
On September 26, authorities sealed all roads surrounding Shahi Masjid in Ujjain with heavy barricades after work began to remove the mosque’s front portion. The move was taken as a precautionary security measure to prevent any untoward incidents during the sensitive demolition.
Seven days later, the barricades were lifted and the previously closed thoroughfares were opened to traffic. Residents, commuters and shopkeepers in the vicinity expressed immediate relief, noting that normal movement had resumed without further disruption.
The reopening is expected to revive local commerce that had been stalled during the closure, as traders can now receive customers and deliveries again. Officials confirmed that security monitoring will continue, but no further restrictions are planned at this stage.
