Ujjain police make knife‑fight suspects lead public apology march

After a drinking party turned violent with a knife fight in Ujjain, police escorted the two accused back to the spot on Monday night and forced them to lead a public apology procession, where they repeatedly begged forgiveness while appearing fearful of law enforcement.
Authorities in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, reported that a drinking gathering on Saturday escalated into a knife fight between two men, resulting in injuries and a police investigation.
On Monday night, senior police officials took the two suspects back to the location of the clash for a "muaayana"—a traditional reconciliation ceremony—and ordered them to walk in a public procession as part of the apology.
During the march, the accused were seen clutching their ears, repeatedly apologising to onlookers, and appeared visibly shaken by the presence of police officers.
The police said the forced public apology is intended to deter similar violent incidents and to reinforce community confidence in law‑and‑order measures. The investigation remains open, and further legal action will be pursued.
