On Raksha Bandhan, the Baba Mahakal temple in Ujjain will tie a 2‑foot Rakhi for the first time, accompanied by a puja and a feast of about 1.25 lakh laddus.

Ujjain’s historic Baba Mahakal shrine is set to mark a unique ritual on Raksha Bandhan, tying a two‑foot-long Rakhi to the deity for the first time in its history. The event is scheduled for the final day of the Hindu month of Shravan, a period traditionally associated with heightened devotion to Lord Shiva.

The ceremony will commence with the customary Bhasma Aarti, after which priests will perform a Panchamrit abhishek and adorn the idol with special shringar. Following these rites, a 2‑foot Rakhi, described as "grand" by temple officials, will be ceremonially tied to Baba Mahakal’s forearm.

In conjunction with the Rakhi offering, the temple will host a massive Mahabhog featuring approximately 1.25 lakh laddus, prepared by temple volunteers. Preparations for both the puja and the massive sweet offering have already begun, underscoring the scale of the celebration.

The initiative aims to attract devotees from across Madhya Pradesh and beyond, highlighting the cultural significance of Raksha Bandhan in the region while reinforcing the temple’s role as a focal point of religious festivities.
