In Ujjain's Lalpur area, farmer Rishabh Pandya and his team cultivated organic sunflower on about 100 bighas, completing the crop in 90-100 days, offering a potential soyabean alternative.

Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh – A small team of young farmers led by Rishabh Pandya has successfully cultivated organic sunflower on a plot of approximately 100 bighas in the Lalpur region of Ujjain.

The experiment, carried out without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, relied on natural soil amendments and crop rotation techniques. Over a period of 90 to 100 days, the sunflower plants matured and were ready for harvest.

The yield, while modest, demonstrates the viability of sunflower as a high‑value cash crop that can compete with soyabean in the local market. Farmers in the area are already discussing adopting the practice to diversify income.

Agricultural experts note that the success could encourage wider adoption of organic sunflower cultivation across Malwa, potentially boosting rural livelihoods and reducing dependence on chemical inputs.
