The Ujjain Development Authority (UDA) and Indian Overseas Bank have finalized a ₹643 crore loan to fund infrastructure and other preparations for the Simhastha religious fair scheduled for 2028.

Ujjain Development Authority (UDA) and Indian Overseas Bank have signed an agreement for a loan of ₹643 crore to support the upcoming Simhastha fair in 2028. The funding is aimed at strengthening the city’s capacity to host the large‑scale religious gathering, which draws millions of pilgrims every twelve years.

The loan will be directed towards critical infrastructure projects, including improvements to roads, water supply, sanitation and crowd‑management facilities. By bolstering these services, authorities hope to ensure a safe and orderly experience for devotees and visitors.

Simhastha, one of the major Kumbh Mela events, is scheduled to take place in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, and the 2028 edition is expected to be the most significant in recent years. The financial boost from the loan underscores the government's commitment to preparing the city for the influx of pilgrims.

The agreement, reported by the Free Press Journal, marks a key milestone in the multi‑year planning process, signalling that the city is moving from planning to execution as the event approaches.
