The Unique Identification Authority of India has finished biometric updates for more than 2 crore school‑age children, linking their Aadhaar numbers with fingerprints and iris data.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced that it has completed biometric updates for over 2 crore school children nationwide. The exercise linked each child's Aadhaar number with their fingerprint and iris data, aiming to improve the accuracy of school enrollment records and welfare scheme delivery.

The drive, launched earlier this year, was carried out in coordination with state education departments. UIDAI field teams visited schools across urban and rural areas, collected biometric information, and uploaded it to the central UIDAI database.

Officials said the updated data will streamline the allocation of scholarships, mid‑day meals and other government benefits to eligible students. The agency reported no major technical glitches and plans periodic refreshes to keep the database current.

The successful completion marks a significant step in integrating biometric identity verification with the education sector, reinforcing the government's push for a digitised, transparent public service ecosystem.
