The United Democratic Party has urged the central government to expedite the formation of the Meghalaya Regional Self‑Administered State Body and the Indigenous Language Programme, among other state concerns.
The United Democratic Party (UDP) has formally requested the central government to accelerate the establishment of the Meghalaya Regional Self‑Administered State Body (MRSSAB) and the Indigenous Language Programme (ILP). The party’s statement, released in Shillong, highlighted the urgency of these initiatives for the socio‑cultural development of Meghalaya.
MRSSAB is intended to grant greater administrative autonomy to the state’s tribal regions, while the ILP aims to preserve and promote the use of indigenous languages across schools and public institutions. UDP leaders argued that delays in these projects are hindering local governance and cultural preservation.
The party also urged the Centre to address other pending issues affecting Meghalaya, including infrastructure development and resource allocation. UDP’s call comes amid growing public demand for faster implementation of state‑level reforms.
Central authorities have yet to respond publicly to the UDP’s plea, but the party’s appeal is expected to intensify pressure on the government to act swiftly.
