Two young men riding a bike fell into the Chambal River from a small bridge near Anakhadi village in Ratlam district; one survived by swimming, while the other drowned.
Two cyclists were crossing a modest footbridge over the Chambal River near Anakhadi village in the Tal police jurisdiction of Ratlam district when the water flowing beneath the bridge caused the bike to lose traction. The sudden slip threw both riders into the fast‑moving river.
One of the men managed to keep his head above water and swam to the bank, where he was rescued by nearby villagers. His companion, however, was unable to stay afloat and was pulled under by the current.
Emergency services were alerted promptly, and local police arrived at the scene to retrieve the body. The deceased was identified as a resident of the area, while the survivor is receiving medical observation for shock.
Authorities have opened a routine inquiry to determine whether the bridge’s condition or unexpected water flow contributed to the accident, and they have advised residents to exercise caution when crossing low‑lying bridges during periods of high water.
