Police in Kishanganj, Bihar, have taken into custody two young men accused of posting photographs and videos on Instagram that displayed a pistol alongside live ammunition. The arrests were made following a complaint that the content violated local weapon‑possession regulations.
Investigators traced the source of the ammunition to a spot along the riverbank where a bunch of bananas was found. Under the banana bunch, officers recovered two cartridges, which were sent for forensic analysis.
The search for the pistol shown in the online posts is still underway, with police canvassing the surrounding area and questioning local residents. Authorities have warned that the possession and public display of firearms without a licence is a serious offence under Indian law.
The two detainees are being held for further questioning, and the case will be forwarded to the district court for appropriate legal action.
