Police in Mubarakpur, Mohali district, detained two young men carrying about 15 kilograms of chura, a wheat‑based product, on suspicion of illegal possession.
Punjab police in the town of Mubarakpur, located in the Mohali district, reported the arrest of two young men who were found in possession of roughly 15 kilograms of chura, a crushed wheat product often used in local cuisine. The individuals were stopped during a routine check and the large quantity of the commodity raised suspicions of illicit trade.
According to officials, the seized chura was not accompanied by any legitimate documentation or transport permits, prompting the authorities to detain the suspects for further investigation. The police have not disclosed the exact charges yet, but the case is being treated as a violation of food‑grains transport regulations.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns among law‑enforcement agencies about the illegal movement of staple food items across state borders, which can affect market prices and supply chains. The two detainees are expected to appear before the local magistrate within the next 24 hours.
