The state government handed over two new water‑treatment plants in Ghanour assembly constituency, aiming to provide safe drinking water to 316 villages.
Patiala – On Monday, the Punjab government officially commissioned two water‑treatment plants in the Ghanour assembly constituency. The facilities are equipped with laboratory units that conduct regular quality checks on water samples before and after treatment, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Each plant also features a modern SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system that monitors the treatment process and the associated storage tanks in real time. This automation is expected to improve operational efficiency and reduce the risk of contamination.
The initiative targets 316 villages across the constituency, promising a reliable supply of potable water to households that previously relied on untreated sources. Local officials said the project aligns with the government's broader push to upgrade rural water infrastructure.
Stakeholders highlighted that the continuous testing regime and digital monitoring will help maintain water quality over the long term, addressing long‑standing concerns about health impacts from unsafe drinking water.
The inauguration was attended by senior state officials, who emphasized that similar projects will be rolled out in other parts of Punjab to meet the state's water security goals.
