Scientists have identified two previously unknown solitary bee species in the forests of Arunachal Pradesh, adding to India's rich biodiversity.
Scientists from the Indian Institute of Science and the Forest Research Institute announced the discovery of two new solitary bee species in the eastern Himalayan forests of Arunachal Pradesh. The species were collected during a survey of pollinators in the region.
Solitary bees, unlike honeybees, do not live in colonies. They play a crucial role in pollinating native plants and maintaining ecological balance.
The new species were found in dense subtropical forests at elevations between 800 and 1200 meters, an area that remains largely unexplored for insect diversity.
Researchers plan to conduct further studies on the bees' behavior and potential use in conservation programs to protect the fragile ecosystems of the Northeast.
