A short-circuit sparked a severe blaze in Paru village, Muzaffarpur, which intensified when a gas cylinder exploded, prompting police and fire‑rescue teams to rush to the scene.
Muzaffarpur district officials reported that a short‑circuit ignited a fire in a house at Paru, a village in the Koonwari block of Bihar. Within minutes, the flames spread to an adjoining house, and a gas cylinder stored inside burst, creating a loud blast that startled nearby residents.
Eyewitnesses said the explosion sent a shockwave through the narrow lanes, shattering windows and scattering debris. The conflagration quickly engulfed both structures, prompting villagers to call emergency services.
Police and the district fire‑service arrived promptly, evacuating any remaining occupants and dousing the flames with water jets. The teams are now conducting a preliminary investigation to determine the exact cause of the short‑circuit and to assess any violations of safety norms.
No fatalities have been reported so far, but several family members suffered minor injuries and were taken to the local hospital for observation. Authorities have urged residents to handle electrical appliances and gas cylinders with caution to prevent similar incidents.
The incident underscores the need for stricter enforcement of building safety standards in rural Bihar, officials added, as they continue to monitor the situation and provide assistance to the affected families.
