A long‑standing argument over a neem tree beside a house in Erragadda Thanda, Suryapet district, escalated into a fight that left two people dead.
Tension that had simmered for months over a neem tree located next to a residential plot in Erragadda Thanda, a hamlet in Suryapet district, erupted into a violent clash on Saturday. According to local police, the dispute began when neighbours could not agree on the tree’s ownership and its alleged encroachment on private land.
The confrontation turned physical after an altercation between the parties involved, and soon other villagers joined the fray. Law enforcement officials arrived at the scene after reports of gunshots and loud shouting. By the time they intervened, two men had sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the spot.
Police have registered a case of homicide and are conducting investigations to identify the individuals who fired the fatal shots. The incident has heightened concerns about the potential for minor property disputes to spiral into lethal violence in rural Telangana.
Authorities have urged residents to resolve such disagreements through legal channels and to avoid taking the law into their own hands. The district administration has also announced that a team of mediators will be deployed to the area to help settle lingering property conflicts.
