Two people died and 19 were admitted to hospitals after drinking adulterated liquor in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, officials said.
Health officials in Gujarat confirmed that two individuals lost their lives after consuming illicit liquor in the coastal city of Bhavnagar. Nineteen more victims were rushed to nearby hospitals with symptoms of poisoning and are receiving treatment, authorities said.
The police have launched an investigation into the source of the spurious liquor, sealing suspected storage units and detaining a few individuals linked to the illegal operation. Samples of the beverage have been sent to a state laboratory for toxicological analysis.
State health department officials warned the public against purchasing unlicensed alcohol and urged anyone experiencing similar symptoms to seek immediate medical attention. The incident underscores ongoing concerns about illicit liquor trade in the state.
Local authorities have also announced that compensation will be provided to the families of the deceased, as per standard protocol for such tragedies.
