The Botanical Survey of India commenced a two‑day workshop in Gangtok on plant identification, herbarium methods and assessing climate‑change impacts at high altitudes.
The Botanical Survey of India (BSI) launched a two‑day training programme in Gangtok, Sikkim, focusing on plant identification, herbarium techniques and the assessment of climate‑change effects in high‑altitude ecosystems.
Participants, including forest officials, researchers and graduate students, were introduced to field identification keys and standard procedures for preparing and preserving herbarium specimens.
The curriculum also covered the use of ecological tools to monitor climate‑driven changes in alpine flora, aiming to build capacity for long‑term biodiversity monitoring in the Himalayas.
Organisers highlighted that such skill‑building initiatives are crucial for informing conservation strategies and adapting forest management to a warming climate.
