Two gunmen on a motorcycle fired three shots at the entrance of the Rosero Elena housing project in Jirakpur on Friday, sparking panic; the developer said they had received a ₹5 crore extortion threat.
On Friday, two young men riding a motorcycle approached the gate of the Rosero Elena residential project in Jirakpur and discharged three rounds, causing alarm among residents and security staff. The firing was brief but loud enough to create a sense of immediate danger at the site.
Police were alerted within minutes and arrived to cordon off the area, beginning a preliminary investigation. No injuries were reported, and the shooters fled the scene on the same bike, evading immediate capture.
The project’s developer later disclosed that the attack appears linked to a prior extortion demand. According to the builder, a threat demanding ₹5 crore had been received earlier, and the shooting may have been an attempt to intimidate the firm into compliance.
Authorities have registered a criminal case under sections relating to unlawful discharge of firearms and extortion. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the gate and surrounding streets to identify the perpetrators and determine any broader criminal network involved.
