Tripura’s law‑enforcement data show that only 14.7% of cases filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have resulted in convictions as of July. The figure, released by the state’s crime statistics department, underscores a relatively low success rate in prosecuting drug‑related offences.
Chief Minister Manik Saha addressed the issue in a press briefing, stating that any police personnel found complicit in drug trafficking or consumption will face strict action. He emphasized that the administration will not extend any leniency to officers linked to narcotics, aiming to restore public confidence in the police force.
The CM also indicated that the government is reviewing investigative procedures and training to improve conviction rates, while reinforcing internal vigilance mechanisms to curb corruption within the force.
