Tripura Minister Proposes Textile and Silk Parks to Boost Traditional Industries

Tripura’s Minister Bikash Debbarma met Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh to discuss establishing a textile park, silk park and National Institute of Design in the state.
Tripura’s Minister of Industries, Bikash Debbarma, held a meeting with Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh in the capital of the state. The discussion focused on creating a dedicated textile park and a silk park to revive the region’s traditional weaving and silk‑producing crafts.
Debbarma highlighted the potential of a textile park to provide modern infrastructure, machinery and skill development facilities for local weavers and entrepreneurs. The silk park, he said, would consolidate the state’s existing silk farms and processing units, enabling better market access.
In addition to the parks, the minister proposed setting up a campus of the National Institute of Design (NID) in Tripura. The institute would offer design and textile courses tailored to the state’s heritage, aiming to nurture a new generation of designers.
Officials expect that these initiatives will create jobs, increase exports of handloom products and preserve Tripura’s cultural identity while integrating it into national and international markets.
