The Tripura Left Front has lodged a complaint alleging that opposition candidates faced obstruction while filing nominations for the state’s urban local body elections, and it has appealed to the central government for deployment of forces.
The Tripura Left Front has formally alleged that opposition parties encountered deliberate obstruction while filing their nominations for the upcoming urban local body (ULB) elections in the state. The party says that officials and local authorities created hurdles that prevented timely submission of nomination papers, jeopardising a free and fair contest.
In response, the Left Front has approached the Election Commission and the central government, demanding that the alleged irregularities be investigated and that appropriate action be taken against those responsible.
The coalition has also appealed for the deployment of central forces in Tripura during the election period, citing concerns over potential unrest and the need to ensure law‑and‑order. The request comes as the state prepares for the ULB polls, which are expected to be closely contested among national and regional parties.
