The Tripura government announced a new mission aimed at socio‑economic empowerment of Bru settlers in the state.
Tripura’s state administration has unveiled a mission focused on uplifting the Bru (Reang) community that has been settled in the region for years. The programme seeks to improve the socio‑economic conditions of the settlers through targeted interventions in livelihood, education and health. Officials said the initiative will coordinate with local bodies to ensure that beneficiaries receive skill‑training, financial support and access to basic services. The government hopes the scheme will facilitate better integration of the Bru population into mainstream society while preserving their cultural identity. Implementation will be monitored by a dedicated task force to track progress and address challenges.
The announcement was made during a press briefing in Agartala, where senior officials outlined the broad objectives without disclosing detailed budgetary allocations. Community leaders welcomed the move, urging swift action to translate promises into tangible benefits.
The mission aligns with Tripura’s broader development agenda, which aims to address the needs of marginalized groups across the state.
