Tripura Health Dept. Sets Ambitious Target for Liver, Heart, Bone Marrow Transplants

The Tripura Health Department has unveiled a comprehensive plan to boost the state’s capacity for liver, heart and bone marrow transplants. In a statement released by Secretary Kiran Gitte, officials highlighted the need for increased infrastructure and trained personnel to meet rising demand.

The initiative aims to establish dedicated transplant units across major hospitals in the state, with a target of performing a specific number of procedures annually. Gitte emphasized that the program will also focus on improving donor registration and public awareness campaigns.

Health officials noted that the move comes after a review of patient outcomes and a recognition that many residents currently travel outside the state for transplant services. By strengthening local capabilities, Tripura hopes to reduce wait times and improve survival rates for transplant patients.

The department will also collaborate with national medical bodies to ensure adherence to best practice guidelines and secure necessary funding for equipment and training.

Gitte concluded that the program represents a significant step toward making advanced transplant care more accessible to the people of Tripura.
