The Tripura government has decided to eliminate the Professional Recruitment Test Certificate (PRTC) requirement for new civil service positions, a move that has stirred debate among candidates and officials.

The state government of Tripura announced a change in its recruitment policy, removing the Professional Recruitment Test Certificate (PRTC) requirement for certain civil service posts.

The PRTC had previously been a mandatory qualification for a range of government jobs, intended to ensure a standardized assessment of candidates. By eliminating this criterion, the administration aims to simplify the hiring process and reduce administrative overhead.

However, the decision has drawn criticism from some quarters. Opponents contend that scrapping the PRTC could lower the quality of recruits and create an uneven playing field for applicants.

In response, officials have stated that alternative measures, such as rigorous interviews and skill‑based assessments, will be employed to maintain merit and fairness in the selection process.
