The state of Tripura marked the 118th birth anniversary of its former ruler Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya with official ceremonies and cultural programmes.

Tripura observed the 118th birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, a ruler remembered for his role in modernising the erstwhile princely state. Government officials, cultural organisations and local residents gathered at venues across the state to pay tribute to the former monarch.

The commemorative events featured speeches highlighting the Maharaja’s contributions to education, infrastructure and the arts, as well as cultural performances that reflected the heritage of Tripura. Flags were hoisted and a wreath was laid at the Maharaja’s memorial, symbolising official recognition of his legacy.

Organisers said the observance aims to inspire younger generations by recalling a period when Tripura embarked on significant development initiatives under the Maharaja’s patronage. The celebrations are part of an annual series of events that honour the state’s historical figures.

No major disruptions were reported, and the day concluded with a public address by the Chief Minister, who reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving Tripura’s cultural history.
