Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said the state government is reviewing measures to improve the Neermahal palace and its surroundings, aiming to boost tourism in Tripura.
Tripura's chief minister, Dr. Manik Saha, told reporters that the state government is currently contemplating a series of upgrades to Neermahal, the historic palace set on Rudrasagar Lake. The proposed enhancements are expected to include landscaping, better visitor facilities, and improved lighting to showcase the structure's architectural features.
Saha emphasized that revitalising Neermahal is part of a broader effort to position Tripura as a more attractive destination for domestic and international tourists. He indicated that feasibility studies are underway and that the final plan will be presented to the cabinet in the coming weeks.
The move follows growing calls from local stakeholders and tourism operators who argue that the palace, a symbol of the region's heritage, has untapped potential. If approved, the upgrades could generate employment opportunities in the hospitality and service sectors surrounding the site.
The government has not disclosed a specific budget or timeline yet, but officials said that funding options, including central tourism schemes, are being explored.
Neermahal, built in the 1930s by the last Maharaja of Tripura, remains a popular attraction, drawing visitors to its lake‑front setting. The proposed improvements aim to preserve its cultural value while making the experience more comfortable for tourists.
