The Tripura government has identified 19 unauthorised rehabilitation facilities operating in the state, prompting a crackdown.
State officials in Tripura announced that a recent inspection uncovered nineteen rehabilitation centres operating without any legal licence or regulatory oversight. The centres, which were found across several districts, were reportedly providing unmonitored treatment to individuals battling substance dependence.
Authorities said the illegal facilities lacked qualified medical staff, proper sanitation and adherence to safety protocols, raising concerns about the welfare of patients and the potential for exploitation.
The government has ordered an immediate shutdown of all identified centres and has launched investigations to determine the operators behind them. Police are expected to file criminal cases under relevant state laws, and the health department will intensify monitoring to prevent similar violations in the future.
Officials emphasized that legitimate rehabilitation services will continue to receive support, urging families to seek accredited institutions for treatment.
