Tribal groups in Kosmi, Sehore district have kept their sit-in alive for a fifth day, demanding a halt to forest‑land clearing and warning they will march to Bhopal to reach the chief minister's residence.
Tribal protesters have been holding a sit‑in at Kosmi village in Sehore district for five consecutive days, objecting to the government's drive to remove illegal encroachments on forest land. The demonstrators say the action threatens their traditional rights and livelihoods.
Local administrative officials have met the protestors repeatedly, attempting to explain the legal basis of the clearing operation, but the tribal leaders say the explanations have not addressed their concerns. As a result, the sit‑in has continued unabated.
On Thursday morning, the protesters announced that if the encroachment removal proceeds, they will mobilise a march from Kosmi to Bhopal, aiming to reach the chief minister's official residence. The warning underscores the escalating tension between the state machinery and tribal communities over forest‑land policies.
Authorities have not yet disclosed any plan to intervene or negotiate further, and the situation remains under close observation as the fifth day of the protest draws to a close.
