After five days of sit‑in and a 40‑km march, tribal protesters from Kosmi stopped their Bhopal encampment following assurances from the chief minister for an inquiry into land and forest‑corp actions.
Tribal groups from Kosmi in Madhya Pradesh set up a protest camp near Bhopal, maintaining a five‑day dharna and walking roughly 40 kilometres on foot to draw attention to grievances over land allotments and actions of the state Forest Development Corporation.
After meeting with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the protesters received a verbal commitment that the disputed land lease and the corporation's activities would be examined by a special inquiry. The chief minister also promised to address the community's broader concerns through administrative channels.
Following the assurances, the tribal representatives announced the suspension of the encampment and declared that they would return to their villages. The decision was communicated through a local MLA, who confirmed that the march would be called off pending the promised investigation.
Authorities said they would monitor the situation closely and ensure that the promised probe proceeds without delay. The halt of the protest marks a de‑escalation of tensions that had drawn regional attention over the past week.
