The governments of Meghalaya and Assam have jointly facilitated the reopening of travel routes between the two states, allowing commuters and goods to move freely.
Newly coordinated efforts by the administrations of Meghalaya and Assam have led to the reopening of inter‑state travel corridors that had been restricted earlier. Border checkpoints have been reactivated, and transport services such as buses and trucks are now permitted to operate across the state line without additional permits.
Officials said the cooperation aims to boost trade, tourism and social ties for communities living along the border. Local traders anticipate smoother movement of agricultural produce and handicrafts, while tourists can again plan trips between Shillong and Guwahati without hindrance.
The move follows a series of meetings between the two state governments to resolve pending issues related to security and infrastructure. Both sides have pledged to monitor the flow of traffic and address any concerns promptly, ensuring that the renewed connectivity benefits residents while maintaining law and order.
