A low‑voltage transformer on a footpath outside Amazon's Bengaluru office exploded, leaving two people with injuries, officials said.
A transformer installed on a footpath outside the Amazon office in Bengaluru erupted early on Wednesday, causing a sudden blast that injured two passers‑by. Emergency services arrived promptly and provided first‑aid before transporting the victims to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Local police have cordoned off the area and are investigating the cause of the explosion, while the electricity department has been called to assess the damaged equipment and ensure safety of the surrounding infrastructure.
Authorities have not released the identities of the injured individuals, but reports indicate that their injuries are not life‑threatening. The incident has raised concerns about the placement of electrical installations on public walkways in busy commercial zones.
The Amazon office, located in the city's central business district, was temporarily evacuated as a precaution, and employees were instructed to remain indoors until the site was declared safe.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have urged the public to avoid the vicinity until clearance is given.
