A new marketplace for local craftsmen has been inaugurated at Kangra Airport, offering them a platform to sell traditional handicrafts to travelers.

Kangra Airport in Himachal Pradesh has launched a dedicated market area for traditional artisans, aiming to showcase regional handicrafts to the growing number of passengers passing through the hub. The space, set up within the airport's terminal complex, provides stalls where craftsmen can display and sell items such as wooden carvings, woolen shawls, and metalwork.
The initiative is expected to create a direct sales channel for artisans who previously relied on distant bazaars, reducing middle‑men and improving earnings. By positioning their products at a high‑traffic location, the market also seeks to promote Himachal's cultural heritage to domestic and international travelers.
Airport officials said the project aligns with broader efforts to boost local tourism and support the state's cottage industry. They anticipate that the visibility of authentic crafts will encourage visitors to purchase souvenirs, thereby generating additional revenue for the region's rural economy.
The market will operate during the airport's regular hours, and authorities plan to rotate participating artisans periodically to ensure a diverse representation of the state's craft traditions.
