Several merchants in Doomdooma, Assam, were handed notes demanding payment and claiming to be from ULFA‑I, which the insurgent group later declared forged.

Traders operating in the market area of Doomdooma, a town in Assam's Tinsukia district, reported receiving handwritten or printed notes that demanded a sum of money and identified the sender as the United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA‑I). The notes were circulated among a number of shopkeepers on the same day, prompting concerns about possible extortion.

Following the distribution of the notes, a spokesperson for ULFA‑I issued a statement denying any involvement. The group asserted that the documents were counterfeit and not issued by its leadership, urging the public not to attribute the threat to the organization.

Local authorities have been informed of the incident, and police are reportedly investigating the source of the notes. No arrests have been made, and the traders have been advised to remain vigilant while the investigation proceeds.
