Air quality in Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region has deteriorated to hazardous levels, prompting official health warnings.

Delhi and the adjoining National Capital Region are experiencing an acute air‑pollution emergency, with officials describing the atmosphere as toxic. The rapid rise in particulate matter has pushed the Air Quality Index into the hazardous band, making outdoor exposure unsafe for the general public.

Health authorities have issued advisories urging residents to limit outdoor activities, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and those with respiratory conditions. Schools and workplaces are being asked to consider temporary closures or remote arrangements where feasible.

The city administration has activated emergency measures, including restrictions on vehicular movement and the suspension of certain construction activities, in an effort to curb emissions. Monitoring stations across the region continue to track pollutant levels in real time.

Experts warn that without sustained action, the city could face prolonged health impacts and economic disruption. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and adopt protective measures such as using masks and air purifiers where possible.
