Tom Cruise says he makes films for lasting impact, not opening weekend, as 'Digger' flops

Tom Cruise spoke to Variety, stating that his choice of projects is guided by a desire to create films that stand the test of time rather than chase opening‑weekend numbers. He emphasized that a lasting cinematic impact should be the primary goal for any filmmaker. The comment arrived as the newly released film “Digger” posted disappointing box‑office results, falling well short of industry expectations and being labeled a commercial flop. Analysts note that while star power can boost initial ticket sales, sustained success depends on audience word‑of‑mouth and critical reception, echoing Cruise’s perspective on enduring cinema.
