Engineers have identified structural wear and sediment buildup that necessitate comprehensive maintenance to ensure the canal’s long‑term functionality.
To mitigate disruption for households and agricultural users, authorities have commissioned a new pipeline that will channel water from the Tillari reservoir directly to the affected regions. The pipeline, already operational, is expected to deliver comparable volumes of water, maintaining supply continuity for drinking, irrigation and industrial needs.
The shutdown is slated to begin in early September, with officials confirming that regular updates will be provided to the public. The repair timeline includes dredging, reinforcement of embankments and installation of modern monitoring equipment to prevent future outages.
