A tiger was reported near the highway in Virajpet, Karnataka, prompting alerts to local authorities.
A tiger was observed close to the main highway that runs through Virajpet, a town in Karnataka's Kodagu district. The sighting was reported by local residents and picked up by the regional newspaper Udayavani. Wildlife officials from the state forest department have been notified and are monitoring the area to ensure the animal's safety and to prevent any potential traffic disruptions.
The presence of a large predator on a public road raises concerns for both commuters and the animal, as such encounters can lead to accidents or stress for the wildlife. Authorities are likely to advise drivers to exercise caution and may temporarily restrict traffic if the tiger remains in the vicinity.
The incident underscores the ongoing challenge of human‑wildlife coexistence in forest‑rich regions of Karnataka, where tigers often roam near settlements and transport routes. Officials are expected to continue surveillance until the animal moves back into its natural habitat.
